Adopt Don't Shop

- Rabjot Kaur

Why should we adopt a dog rather than buying one from a breeder? Let me give you reasons why you shouldn’t buy a puppy. Most breeders in India are unethical. When you buy a pup you are supporting unethical/backyard breeders/puppy mills. The fancy pet shops that you see are all puppy mills. They use the female dogs like a machine which produces puppies to make money by selling them off. Dogs used for breeding are kept in terrible conditions. They are kept in small cages and are never given any proper care and food. They are breeded very often and then later discarded like trash on the roads when they can’t reproduce. They are literally raped on a ‘rape stand’ since sometimes they might retaliate. During the process, the female might end up getting injured.

NO DOG DESERVES TO GO THROUGH THIS ORDEAL.

Also, breeders are in a hurry to sell off pups because they start to consume some solids along with the mother’s milk. This is an additional cost burden for them so they are in a hurry to sell the pups. Additionally, they will be able to inject hormones in the mother to make her stop lactating, come on heat sooner so that she can be mated again to produce puppies to sell.

There are so many dogs in the shelter or on the streets who are yearning for love and care. Please don’t buy a puppy for the sole reason of an xyz breed being cute. When people don’t discriminate humans based on their colour, then why discriminate between animals? The thousands you paid not only bought you your pup, but it has directly paid for a female to remain in a cage and to be forced into mating and producing more pups. YOUR money has directly supported the abuse of a sentient being.

THE MARKET EXISTS, BECAUSE THE DEMAND EXISTS. WHEN THE DEMAND STOPS, THE BREEDING WILL TOO.

Please make better choices. adopt a dog from a shelter or adopt a indie dog off the streets. Its such an irony that Indians don’t adopt indie dogs and instead run for foreign breeds to support such a heinous act.

PLEASE DO NOT SHOP.
